The Arizona Firebirds dominated the host Farmington Strike Zone Cardinals on Thursday night to advance to the championship game of the 2011 Connie Mack World Series. The Firebirds scored three runs in the third and five runs in the fifth to beat the Cardinals 8-0 in a five inning game.
Winning Firebird pitcher Steve Casey allowed five hits while striking out seven Farmington hitters and walking none. Cardinal starter Dominic Moreno suffered the loss.
The Firebirds advance to the championship game at 8:00 PM MDT on Friday and will play the winner of the Midland Redskins and the Florida Legends who play at 5:30 MDT. Arizona advances because both Midland and Florida have received a bye in the tournament while the Firebirds have not.
